I earned my degree from Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia. This is my seventeenth year teaching and my third year here at Dudley Primary. My husband, Kevin and I have 3 children: Kylie who is fourteen (an ninth grader), Aidan who is eleven (a sixth grader), and Chloe who is 8 (a third grader). In my spare time, I enjoy scrap booking, reading, and being with my family.

UNDERSTANDING OUR PEACEFUL CLASSROOM
|
The Peaceful Classroom: The Peaceful Classroom is a program designed by Naomi Drew to develop an atmosphere of peace and compassion in the classroom. Students will learn to think about how actions effect others and to reflect on feelings. We will be using Win Win Guidelines and "I Messages" for Conflict Resolution. Click on the link at the side of the page to download a Word document that will help you talk about these at home.
Have You Filled A Bucket Today?: This book by Carol McCloud, teaches students about self esteem in an easy to understand way. In short, when you do something nice for someone or someone does something nice for you, it fills both people's buckets. However, the reverse is also true. If you are ugly to someone else or someone else is ugly to you, both buckets are "dipped from" and become empty. I have two "buckets" in the classroom that student are working to fill. One is a small "bucket". When this is full, it is poured into the large one and a small reward is earned. An example is "sock day" where students can wear socks during the morning while we are in the room. When the large "bucket" is filled, the class receives a larger reward. My "bucket" can be filled 3 ways: 1. Students can earn a small pebble by being spotlighted for Amazing behavior at random points during the day. 2. Every student who stays on Amazing all day earns a medium pebble. 3. If the class is working together and meeting/exceeding expectations OR if they receive a compliment from another adult, they earn a large pebble. Using The Peaceful Classroom in Action and the Bucket Filling Philosophy along with other Character Education literature and music, I hope to help your child develop into his/her best self. |
